OBJECTIVE
I know I’m supposed to do something, I’m on a journey to find out what that something is.
SUMMARY
Over eight years experience in software life cycle development and software testing including client server and web applications with emphasis on software development
Quick learner with excellent communication skills and a keen eye for detail
I took the CA State Exam that covered both the Assistant Information Systems Analyst and Associate Information Systems Analyst (Specialist) positions. My scores landed me in the 4th rank for both classifications.
Associate Information Systems Analyst (Specialist) is 85%.
Assistant Information Systems Analyst is 90%.
After a few interviews I realized that I didn't want to work for this state.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is where I’m going to go into more detail about my job duties having to do with my work experience. I’ll start out with the most recent then the next most recent, etc.
Programmer Analyst, HDR Insurance Services – November 1998 – Present
While working as a programmer analyst I performed a variety of tasks, most of which have to do with programming. At HDR the primary language used is 4th Dimension, which is a client/server software package. At times I had the chance to work with Java in a couple of different aspects; one had to do with creating and/or modifying a web application, and the other having to do with EJBs. By far I liked working with Java much more than 4th dimension.
One of my favorite projects was migrating from Borland’s EAS to JBoss AS. I did not have any formal training with JBoss so some aspects of it were quite difficult. I experienced some problems because some of the xml descriptor files were not created correctly with Eclipse but was able to find enough resources to help me with this.
Another challenging project was building a set of transfer routines to transfer our data between the 4D and Oracle databases. This was needed because we wanted to “clean up” some of the data that is old and not being used any longer, but because of regulations we are not able to delete the data. The 4D database is used by HDR’s Insurance Pro application and cleaning up the old data helps the application to run a little faster.
The project that I have been working on for the past year (and then some) is creating Adobe Acrobat Forms. As new lines of business and new states become effective we need to be able to communicate to the Insured what their policy consists of. I create the Acrobat Forms version of the required ISO and/or Company form that can be printed from within the Insurance Pro application. This involves building the Acrobat Form (starting from a .doc file and setting up the page margins, headers and footers), giving the pages a template name and then modifying any code necessary so that the document can be printed.
In addition to the programming to accomplish these projects, I was also required to do a lot of the testing, troubleshooting and documentation. Some of the tools I use at HDR include the JBuilder IDE, JBoss AS and Eclipse IDE with Subversion.

On my personal time
I have been working on setting up a website, [http://www.katomi.com www.katomi.com]. It needs a lot of work and I’m learning as I go. This is for me; I’m using it as a learning environment. A couple of notable installations are under the projects link, I have an ID generator that uses a JSP with a link to a servlet. The servlet in turn uses a Java class to connect to an in-container EJB (using JBoss as the application server) to get the next available ID. The EJB uses a MySQL database to persist the next ID and caches 10 at a time. I use JavaScript to make the connection to the application server and to refresh the view so there’s no change in navigation, only part of the currently loaded web page is changed. I have also been working with Mediawiki and you can see the beginning at [http://www.katomi.com/wiki www.katomi.com/wiki]. I recently changed servers (along with a new IP address) and had some problems connecting because it seems that an ‘a’ record didn’t get deleted from a DNS server so katomi.com had two IP addresses associated with it. I didn’t notice it until the old IP address was re-used and I was being directed to a website that wasn’t mine — very irritating.
